Standard Notes is a minimalist, privacy-first notes app. Everything you write is encrypted on your device before it syncs, and apps are available for web, desktop and phones. The app and its encryption library are open source and independently audited.

Can I trust it?
- AGPL-3.0-only. Free to use and change. If other people use your changed version, including over a network (for example a website you host for them), you must offer them your source code under the same licence. Using it privately for yourself or your household has no extra obligations.
- Your data: stores personal data, on your own device or server. Encrypted notes in the sync server and an encrypted local copy on each device.
- Other services: Standard Notes sync server (required, free tier; paid plans add editors and features)
- Reviewed version. Your AI always gets exactly the version we've checked.
- Never paste your password, keys or session tokens into an AI chat.
- Changes to encryption or sync can make notes unreadable. Test only with a throwaway account.
