What it does

Docmost is an open-source collaborative wiki, a Notion or Confluence alternative you host yourself. People edit pages together in real time, organise them into spaces, comment, share pages publicly, and embed diagrams. It suits a family handbook, a club or a small business.

  • Real-time collaborative editing
  • Spaces, permissions, comments and page history
  • Diagrams (draw.io, Excalidraw, Mermaid) built in
  • Import from Markdown and HTML, export to PDF

Great for: Families, clubs and small teams who want one tidy place to write things down together.

How people are using this project

Examples of what people ask their AI to do with Docmost. Start from one, or just tell your AI and it will ask what you'd like.

Can I trust it?

  • AGPL-3.0-only. Free to use and change. If other people use your changed version, including over a network (for example a website you host for them), you must offer them your source code under the same licence. Using it privately for yourself or your household has no extra obligations. A packages/ee folder is under a separate commercial licence and should not be reused.
  • Your data: stores personal data, on your own device or server. Postgres database plus an attachments folder (a Docker volume).
  • Other services: Email (SMTP or Postmark) (optional, usually free to a few dollars); File storage (local disk or S3) (optional, free locally)
  • Reviewed version. Your AI always gets exactly the version we've checked.
  • Set a long random APP_SECRET and never commit your .env file.
  • Check which spaces and pages are shared publicly before inviting others.
  • Run behind HTTPS if it is reachable from the internet.
